High-Integrity Pressure Protection System.
Prevents the over-pressurisation of a plant and protects equipment in cases where:
- High pressures and/or flow rates are processed.
- The environment is to be protected.
- The economic viability of a development needs improvement.
- The risk profile of the plant must be reduced.
Designed and built in accordance with the IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards.
This will sense high pressure using multiple sensors. It will then use a logic solver to process the input from the sensors to an output for the final element. It will then shut off the source of high pressure.

The “logic solver” will activate the pressure alarm when 2 out of the 3 Pressure Transmitters are activated. The block valves will then activate to stop the flow downstream to prevent it from reaching maximum pressure. Because 2 of the 3 pressure transmitters need to be activated in order to set off the Pressure Alarm, the HIPPS can still function if one of the Pressure Transmitter fails. Likewise, if one of the Block Valves, the HIPPS can still function, as the other valve will close when the system is activated.
